The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a non-profit, nonsectarian, humanitarian organization committed to providing resettlement services and assistance to newly arrived refugees living in the Dallas area. IRC Dallas is looking for a volunteer receptionist to assist by providing reception services to local refugees. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to help people from other countries by welcoming clients and visitors to our office, answering incoming telephone calls, notifying staff of the arrival of appointments, checking office voicemails, distributing incoming and outgoing mail, and assisting staff with various administrative tasks in a multicultural office environment. If you want to make a difference and are willing to share your time, talents, and skills...then we could use your help at the IRC. The ideal candidate has basic computer skills, is personable, able to work independently, comfortable working with people from different cultures, and has the ability and patience to communicate with limited-English speakers. Bilingual ability in a refugee language is highly desirable but not required. Hours are flexible between 9am and 5pm Monday through Friday, with a minimum commitment of 8 hours per week. This is a great opportunity to gain exposure to people with different cultures and languages and it’s also a great introduction to the refugee resettlement services that the IRC Dallas provides.
