The primary function of the Freight Broker is to secure high paying freight from customers and find reliable third party carriers to cover the freight. A previous book of business and carrier following are preferred. This position will be required to monitor third party capacity service and will network heavily with Customer Service in the load acceptance space. An additional key accountability of this role will be managing the service of third party capacity supplies as well as grow the carrier base. An entrepreneurial spirit is preferred in this position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Secure third party capacity for all loads originating in your assigned market
2. Extensive rate negotiation on a daily basis.
3. Responsible for a group of carriers. Will need to understand their freight needs, desired flows as well as managing the service they supply.
4. Network with Customer Service to aid in Brokerage load acceptance.
5. Develop a long term plan to enhance third party capacity performance through the use of Continuous Improvement Methods.
6. Monitor daily progress of our third party carriers. Obtain timely updates from the carriers to ensure we have our loads in the proper status.
7. Obtain billing information from third party capacity to ensure we properly bill our customers.
8. Monitor and update third party insurance requirements
9. Post loads in your region to DAT, Freightplace, and outside posting companies as necessary
10. Source new carriers to add to our carrier base. Ensure the carrier has proper operating authority and insurance as well as understand the carriers freight needs.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Sound judgment, initiative and professional communication skills must be exhibited at all times when dealing with the partner carriers and customer service associates.
2. Possess effective interpersonal communication skills (including feedback) when dealing with internal customer service and foreign carriers.
3. Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize workload.
4. Strong negotiation skills required.
5. Sound financial judgment
6. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
7. Attention to detail and accuracy.
